The Super Machans Chennaiyin FC are back with a bang in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2015 as they thrashed Delhi Dynamos 4-0 in match no 45 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Marina Arena on Tuesday.
With the help of this fantastic victory, Chennaiyin FC have climbed to the fourth spot in the ISL 2015 points table.
It is almost unbelievable how things have been changing at a brisk pace in this season of the ISL. A couple of matches ago, Chennaiyin FC were reeling at the bottom of the ISL 2015 points table. And with two back-to-back victories, they have kept their chances of making it to the semi finals alive.
In their last game, the Super Machans handed a drubbing to Kerala Blasters (4-1) riding on yet another fabulous hat-trick of Stiven Mendoza. The Colombian, after the Delhi Dynamos game, has 10 goals to his name in the ISL 2015 so far with no other striker to catch up with his tally anytime soon unless Sunil Chhetri or Iain Hume scores hat-tricks in their upcoming games.
Head coach Marco Materazzi was delighted after the fabulous win over the upbeat Delhi Dynamos in Chennai on Tuesday. The legendary Italian feels that Chennaiyin FC are too good a team to struggle like they were doing and they deserve a place in the ISL 2015 semi finals.
"Nothing changed for us. Against Atlético de Kolkata also, we could have won. We deserve the semi-final spot. Goal difference is important but only when you are on the same points with other teams. The main thing is to win matches," Materazzi told the reporters at the post-match press conference on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, things did not go in the direction Roberto Carlos them wanted to. They still have three matches in their hands and they are not yet out of the race to the semi finals. This was their third defeat and the Brazilian coach was not very happy with the performance of his players on the pitch against Chennaiyin FC.
"When we lose, I take the responsibility... If you see all the goals, there were individual mistakes from us. They have important players like Raphael [Augusto], Bruno [Pelissari], [Stiven] Mendoza. If you allow these players to perform, that's what they do. Today we didn't know how to play against Chennai. Chennaiyin had the motivation to win," Carlos told the reporters after the match.
"The players have to go there and do what they have to do and everything is psychological. We still have the opportunity to qualify for the semis, we still have three more games in hand. We are still focused on achieving this goal."
