People across India have been sending relief materials that includes food, blankets and other necessary supplies to Chennai so that the city can return to normalcy after it was hit by the worst disaster ever.
However, most of the trucks with relief supplies travelling to Chennai are being looted by the villagers in Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu, even though they are not affected by the flood.
A video, showing the inhumane attitude of some of the villagers, shared by Amirtharaj Stephen, a freelance photographer and documentary filmmaker, has been doing the rounds on social media.
"The relief materials and medicines meant for the flood victims are being looted from the transport vehicles by villages who are not affected by flood. Villagers, who are not affected by floods are blocking the trucks carrying relief materials and looting it. These people's attitude are affecting thousands of people are who are very badly affected by floods. So much of Milk, Dress, Food Products, Sanitary Napkins etc were wasted," writes Amirtharaj along with the video.
Tamil actor Siddharth, who is actively participating in relief operations in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu with RJ Balaji and other young volunteers, appeared before a national media for the first time and reacted on the attitude of villagers in Cuddalore regarding the looting of relief supplies.
"The reason that many are not getting the supplies, the saddest part of what's happening across Cuddalore district is that on the main roads people who already have enough supplies, who don't actually have an emergency needs for supplies, are attacking relief vehicles and are opening the trucks and are emptying them and running away. This is not an intention to make another human being look bad, but this is what is happening. The ones that already have are getting more, the ones that don't have any are not getting any, because it's a question of giving greedy and not the needy," Siddharth told NDTV.
Siddharth also requested for police support so that the materials reach the needy.

Thanks for the administration for being a mute spectator. Earlier it was political goons and now it is the villagers ..... Here in this video you can see how a whole truck was looted @ Kallayankuppam village near Perumal Eri. These supplies were originally meant for the victims who have lost their homes in floods. These people were mostly rescued and kept in community centers, school and marriage halls. Some doctors whom we met at a cafe in the evening also shared similar experience.S.p.
