While friends often squabble over alcohol, a 29-year-old drunk man chopped off his friend's penis for not sharing the liquor equally in Chennai. The incident took place on Sunday night (August 19) in Rajamangalam area of Kolathur.
The accused, who has been identified as Saravanan and the victim, Moorthy, 28, were sitting and drinking alcohol near a liquor shop in Rajamangalam. The extremely drunk duo got into a heated argument as Moorthy poured a bigger share of alcohol into his glass. This enraged Saravanan following which they got into a massive brawl.
They exchanged insults and then traded blows before Saravanan hit Moorthy over the head with a huge rock. Moorthy was on the ground and bleeding profusely but continued to abuse Saravanan, a police officer told The Times of India.
"Saravanan was infuriated. He pulled out a blade from a shirt pocket and slashed off Moorthy's genitals. Some passersby heard Moorthy scream in pain and took him to the hospital," the officer added.
A crowd immediately gathered at the spot and thrashed the accused before handing him over to the police. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the duo -- daily wage labourers from Tiruvannamalai -- often used to squabble over money.
The accused, who has been remanded in police custody has admitted to the crime. "Saravanan admitted to the attack, saying he was angry that Moorthy did not share the liquor fairly and left very little for him," the police told the English daily.
Saravanan has been charged with attempt to murder. Meanwhile, Moorthy is undergoing treatment at the Stanley Medical College and Hospital. After arresting Saravanan, the cops tried to search for the severed genital but have failed to find it.
