What to expect from Sunday's Community Shield tie
With a silverware up for grabs, both Manchester City and Chelsea will be eager to boss Sunday's Community Shield tie at Wembley.
The annual fixture holds a lot of importance for Maurizio Sarri and Chelsea as it gives them an opportunity to banish the memories of a poor 2017/18 season and get the fans behind them.
Sarri, who replaced his Italian counterpart Antonio Conte, will be making his competitive debut on Sunday. After impressing with Napoli, helping them finish second behind Juventus at Serie A, the 59-year-old tactician is carrying a considerable burden of expectation.
Beating Guardiola's City and ending Chelsea's Community Shield draught that dates back to 2009 would be an ideal way of laying down an early marker. Notably, Sarri will become the first man since David Moyes in 2013 to win the title on his competitive debut.
"I want to win, because it's very important to have immediately a trophy. But in this moment of the season it's very important, the performance. We have to improve, of course," Sarri said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Chelsea fans will be keen on getting a sneak peak into Sarri's tactics and preferences on Sunday. The Italian tactician was known for his possession based and aggressive high-press football at Napoli.
The Blues had a decent pre-season where they defeated Perth Glory and Inter Milan (International Champions Cup) before losing to Arsenal on penalties.
Both teams will be missing quite a few regulars who are yet to return after the World Cup.
