The summer transfer window will shut its doors on Tuesday, and the clubs are busy preparing their final bids for their respective transfer targets. Few are even ready to break the bank to rope in world-class players for the ongoing season. Talking about spending truck loads of cash, Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea owner, has given the green signal to place a mega bid for midfield ace Paul Pogba.
The Blues are preparing a final bid of over £70million for the Juventus midfielder, according to the Independent. Initially, Abramovich had insisted that he is only willing to pay up to £60m for the France international, but he has changed his mind, and is willing to part with more money.
Juventus have made it clear that they will not be selling Pogba in this summer transfer window and have handed him the no.10 jersey, which is quite iconic. But Jose Mourinho has reportedly made his mind up to bring in Pogba and bolster his midfield.
If Pogba agrees to leave Juventus, and arrives at Stamford Bridge, it will be for a British-record fee. In the last summer transfer window, Manchester United signed Angel Di Maria for £59.7m, which is currently the record.
According to the Daily Star, Pogba deal is still possible owing to the loan move of Juan Cuadrado to the Italian giants. Cuadrado has struggled to perform in Chelsea ever since he has joined, and the Blues have sent him on loan to Juventus.
Apart from the Pogba chase, Chelsea are also in pursuit of Everton's defender John Stones. Stones has also been linked heavily with the Blues in this ongoing transfer window. According to Guardian, Chelsea are ready to make an offer of £40m to bring in John Stones from Goodison Park. This will be Chelsea's fourth and final offer for the talented central defender.
The previous offers made by the Blues, since the start of the summer transfer window for the England international were £20m, £26m and £30m, and all these were turned down by Everton. Now Everton is under further pressure as reports suggest that the youngster has handed in a formal transfer request. The 21-year old English footballer prefers a move to Stamford Bridge this season, and he has informed his head coach Roberto Martinez about his wish.
