Chelsea are reportedly looking to beat Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United to the signature of Tyrone Mings, who is thought a long-term replacement for their captain John Terry.
The Blues have had no central defensive problems under Jose Mourinho, with Gary Cahill and Terry doing well in the heart of the defence.
However, now with the 34-year-old Chelsea captain probably in the final few years of his playing career, the Blues are reportedly looking for a long-term replacement for him.
Although Chelsea do have another central defender in Kurt Zouma, Mourinho is reportedly looking for someone who has a little more experience playing in England.
Due to this season, the Portuguese is reportedly after the £10 million-rated Mings, who has managed to attract the attention of a lot of clubs with his impressive performances for Championship side Ipswich Town, according to the Daily Mirror.
Despite the 21-year-old primarily being a left-back, he is also capable of playing in the centre-back position.
Other English Premier League sides including Manchester United and Arsenal are also reportedly interested in Mings, but the Blues are reportedly confident that they will be able to convince the versatile youngster to move to Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea right-back Paulo Ferreira feels that the Blues have been thoroughly boosted following the summer arrivals of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas this summer.
The Blues have had a terrific start to the new season as they are currently four points clear at the top of the Premier League, with nine wins, two draws and no losses in their first 11 fixtures.
Apart from the Premier League, Chelsea are also doing well in the Champions League, where they are three points clear in their group.
And Ferreira believes that Costa and Fabregas have played a very big hand in the Blues success this season.
"The new players that came have lots of quality and the important thing is they have adapted easily," Ferreira told the club's official website.
"Diego Costa just arrived, it's his first season and he is scoring goals. Cesc Fabregas knows the Premier League really well and is a top player, they came and brought extra quality to the team."
And the former Porto defender is certain the Blues will win the Premier League title this season if they continue playing in the same way.
"At the moment Chelsea is doing really well and I am very happy for that," he added. "I think they can be champions, it will still not be easy, it will be a long and hard season, but I am really pleased with how the team is doing."
