Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly competing for the signature of CSKA Moscow's Seydou Doumbia following reports of the Russian club ready to let the striker go at a cut down price of £15m in January.
The Blues were being linked with a move for the 26-year-old Ivorian this summer, but a deal failed to materialise as they ended up signing Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid), Didier Drogba (free agent) and Loic Remy (Queens Park Rangers) instead. Doumbia won the golden boot in Russia last season.
Despite talks not being successful this summer, it is believed that Doumbia is still interested in making a move to Stamford Bridge in January.
And, according to the Daily Star, the Blues are also reportedly interested in securing the Ivoirian's signature in January, despite them already having three strikers in the squad.
Chelsea are reportedly impressed with the Ivorian striker's performances as he has managed to net 16 goals from 18 games in all competitions this season, despite him facing a lot problems with injuries.
However, the Blues will not be able to secure the Ivoirian's signature that easily as Liverpool are also reportedly interested in the striker.
The Reds' poor performances in the Premier League and the Champions League this season have prompted many to believe that Liverpool's success in the 2013/14 campaign was only due to Luis Suarez.
Despite Liverpool bringing in the likes of Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli to replace Suarez, both the strikers have been very unimpressive, failing to score a single goal in the Premier League this season.
Due to this reason, Rodgers is reportedly hoping to secure Doumbia's signature in January to bolster his attack, according to the Sunday People.
Liverpool scouts were reportedly present during Manchester City's 1-2 loss against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League, where Doumbia scored a brace.
And now the Reds are reportedly ready to get into a bidding war with Chelsea to secure the Ivoirian's signature in January.
Apart from Chelsea and Liverpool, Serie A side Napoli are also reportedly interested in the 26-year-old, who still has four years left on his current contract with CSKA Moscow.
