The Spanish football association have confirmed that Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been ruled out of Spain upcoming international fixtures against internationals against Ukraine and Netherlands due to a hamstring injury
The 26-year-old was forced out of the pitch in the second half during Chelsea 3-2 win over Hull City on Sunday.
After undergoing some tests in London on Monday, it was revealed that the striker had suffered a hamstring injury.
However, the striker had flown to Spain to undergo a fitness test with the Spanish Football Federation.
And now the RFEF (Real Federación Española de Fútbol) have confirmed that the striker will be unable to feature in the upcoming international fixtures due to him suffering a "level 1 hamstring tear on the biceps femoris" of his left thigh.
"Spanish international forward, Diego Costa, left the premises of the Spanish Football Federation this morning after undergoing several tests with the medical services of the RFEF," read a statement in the Spanish football Federation's official website.
"The striker suffered a level 1 hamstring tear on the biceps femoris of the left thigh, which was previously already noted by the medical services of his club, whereby the medical staff at the RFEF recommend him not to take part in the national team's next matches against Ukraine and the Netherlands."
The statement added that the Brazil-born striker will be sent back to Chelsea to undergo rehabilitation. "Diego Costa will return to Chelsea FC where he will undergo the corresponding medical treatment."
Costa was also unavailable during Spain's international fixtures against Belarus and Germany in November due to a hamstring problem.
The former Atletico Madrid striker will be replaced by Malaga youngster Juanmi, who was called up Vicente del Bosque after Costa's participation was in doubt.
The 21-year-old striker despite winning the European Championship twice with Spain's under-19 team has not made an appearance for the senior side.
Apart from Costa, Valencia forward Paco Alcacer will also be unavailable for Spain's upcoming international fixtures due to him not being a 100% fit following a knee injury.
