Reports claiming that three teenage girls were beaten and raped by 'Charlie demon' in Philadelphia while playing the popular Ouija board-inspired game have been established as fake.
Since early May, #CharlieCharlieChallenge has been trending topic on social media that has enraptured thousands of teens and adults across the globe. For the last several days, viral trends #CharlieCharlieChallenge or #CharlieCharlie have topped the charts on social media.
According to Snopes, the Charlie Charlie Challenge is a combination of a number of folkloric supernatural summoning game. "Like the classic legend of "Bloody Mary", participants (often apprehensively) summon a supernatural entity or entities and as with a Ouija board, they pose questions to those spirits. The game was rumoured to involve an "old Mexican" ghost or demon by many participants."
However, a recent report left many scared and puzzled after it suggested that teens in Philadelphia were beaten up and then raped by the Charlie demon. The report published in Huzlers said the three teenage girls were playing the Charlie Charlie Challenge when the incident took place. One of the victims asked, according to the rules of the game, "Charlie, Charlie Baby are you here?"
After this, the teens said they were violently attacked by the "Charlie demon". The report, which has now been established as fake, even claimed that the girls were admitted to the hospital for injuries and the police were investigating the matter.
An Inquisitr report, calling the bluff, noted: "Although their claims have yet to be confirmed, it's definitely safe to say their accounts are absolutely false because the story is a hoax. For those who don't know, Huzlers is a satirical online news outlet known for posting outlandish stories for the purpose of a good laugh."
Despite the fact that the entire Charlie Charlie Challenge is a hoax, religious groups have now launched its attack on the spirit summoning game.
A Catholic priest, in a letter published recently by The Independent, warned his wards from participating in "demonic activity".
Father Stephen McCarthy of Saints John Neumann and Mario Goretti Catholic High School in Philadelphia wrote:
"There is a dangerous game going around on social media which openly encourages impressionable young people to summon demons.
I want to remind you all there is no such thing as 'innocently playing with demons. Please be sure to NOT participate and and encourage others to avoid participation as well.
The problem with opening yourself up to demonic activity is that it opens a window of possibilities which is not easily closed."
