Director Pankaj Batra's Punjabi film "Channo Kamli Yaar Di" (CKYD) starring Neeru Bajwa and Binnu Dhillon has made decent collection at the overseas box office in the first weekend.
"Channo Kamli Yaar Di" has collected $48,171 (Rs 33.03 lakh) from 12 screens at the US box office in the first weekend. The Punjabi drama film has landed at the third place on the weekend business chart for Indian movies after "Neerja" (Hindi) and "Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gadha" (Telugu) graced the first and second places, respectively.
"Channo Kamli Yaar Di" has collected US$114,591 (Rs 78.57 lakh) from 11 screens at the Canada box office in the first weekend. The movie has topped the business chart for Indian films in the country, beating the much-hyped Bollywood movie "Neerja," which has raked in $95,408 in its opening weekend.
The Neeru Bajwa and Binnu Dhillon starrer has collected £21,597 (Rs 21.16 lakh) from 10 screens at the UK box office in the first weekend. It has landed at the third place on the chart after "Neerja" and "Fitoor." "Channo Kamli Yaar Di has collected A$62,378 (Rs 30.68 lakh) from 13 screens at the Australia box office in three days and graced at the second place on the chart after "Neerja."
"Channo Kamli Yaar Di" has collected NZ$20,353 (Rs 9.29 lakh) from five screens at the New Zealand box office in the opening weekend. The Punjabi film has topped the business chart for Desi films, beating "Neerja, which has raked in NZ$4,623 (Rs 2.11 lakh) from four screens in the country.
"Channo Kamli Yaar Di" has collected approximately a total of US$251,502 (Rs 1.72 crore) from 51 cinema halls at the overseas box office in the first weekend. It has become one of biggest opener Punjabi movies of 2016.
