As expected, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu on 28 March lapped up Pawan Kalayan's suggestion to the electorate in Andhra Pradesh (AP), to vote those parties and leaders who could build a new capital city for the proposed Seemandhra state.
Jana Sena party leader and actor, Pawan, on 27 March suggested the AP electorate to vote and elect those candidates capable to build a new capital to Seemandhra on the lines of Hyderabad, the present capital of the combined state. Pawan was addressing his second public meeting at Visakhapatnam, after his party's launch at Hyderabad earlier this month.
Naidu stated that TDP is committed to build a new capital city for Seemandhra, similar to Hyderabad. Naidu stated this in Hyderabad, while admitting several leaders into TDP at NTR Trust Bhavan. Naidu said he welcomes Pawan's intention to not split votes in Seemandhra by fielding Jana Sena candidates.
Pawan had stated that if he fields his party candidates in Seemandhra, votes to be polled to non-Congress parties like Jana Sena and TDP will be divided, which he does not want. Hence Jana Sena would not contest the 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Telugu actress Sana, leaders from West Godavari district, Sriranganatha Raju and Moses Raju, joined TDP in the presence of Naidu. Naidu took the dais to take potshots at YSR Congress party. He claimed that people are not in a position to cast their votes for YSR Congress, said media reports.
Meanwhile, TDP and BJP are likely to reach an understanding on seat-sharing to contest the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, to be held simultaneously in the state during April and May 2014. During the day, Naidu and BJP spokesperson Prakash Jawadekar met in Hyderabad and held talks in this regard.
