Shalu Kurian, who rose to fame for portraying the role Varsha in Malayalam television serial Chandanamazha, has got engaged to Melvin Philip at St Thomas Church in Kerala's Kottayam district. It was followed by a star-studded reception ceremony that saw the presence of the cast and crew of Chandanamazha serial and many other actors.
Melvin works as a PR manager at a hotel in Kochi and Shalu has revealed through a Facebook live video that her marriage ceremony will be on May 17.
Before Chandanamazha, Shalu was also part of TV serials Indira, Sarayu, Kalyani Kalavani and Sreekumaran Thambi's Chattambi Kalyani. She has also appeared in a few Malayalam movies, including Jubilee, Kabadi Kabadi, Kappal Muthalali, Nanthuni and Calling Bell, among others. However, none of the projects helped her to get recognised. It was her performance in Chandamazha that gave a career break and helped the actress become a familiar face for television audience in Kerala.
Meanwhile, the betrothal ceremony of actress Meghna Vincent, who plays Amritha in the same serial, is also taking place on Saturday. While she is getting married to her long-time boyfriend Don Tomy, his sister Dimple Rose is marrying Kochi-based businessman Anson Francis. The joint betrothal function was arranged at Puzhayoram International Convention Centre in Thrissur. Dimple and Anson will enter the wedlock on April 26, while Meghna and Don will get married on April 30.
It has to be noted that during the Aruvikkara byelection in 2015, Meghna had become a victim of social media trolls and memes following the statement she made while campaigning for Bharatiya Janata Party candidate O Rajagopal. During her interaction with media, the actress had mentioned the poor condition of roads in Kerala and compared them to roads in "other countries like Dubai, Chennai and Mumbai."

"I travel to other countries for shooting, like Dubai, Chennai and even Mumbai and to save time, I even apply make-up when am travelling in Chennai. But I can't do that in Kerala due to the poor conditions of the roads in the state. This has to be changed and for this, we need to move forward like India," Meghna had said.
