The complete list of players for the Champions League Twenty20 tournament has been announced, as eight foreign players that were selected by more than two teams have decided to play for the IPL franchises.
New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson, who plays domestic cricket for Northern Knights, has opted for Mumbai Indians. Anderson was brought by the Mukesh Ambani owned franchise for $750,000 in the IPL 7 auction.
Former Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori will take Anderson's place in the Northern Knights, which also feature Scott Styris, pacer Trent Boult, Kane Williamson and BJ Watling.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga picked Mumbai Indians over Southern Express, while Windies all-rounder Kieron Pollard also signed up for the IPL franchise. However, Indian speedster Zaheer Khan has not been named in the 15-member MI squad, as the pace bowler looks to get back to full fitness.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Zaheer will not be fit for the forthcoming Twenty20 tournament, although he is making improvement, recently starting bowling. Zaheer picked up a tendon injury during an IPL game against Kings XI Punjab.
Australians George Bailey and David Miller have decided to represent KXIP, while fellow countryman Pat Cummins will play for the IPL 7 champions the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis and Caribbean spinner Sunil Narine will also play for the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned team.
"Like previous seasons, players who have been named by more than one team have been asked to nominate which side they are going to represent," CLT20 governing council member Dean Kino said. "Players are free to make any decision they wish. Teams are then allowed to replace any player that has withdrawn from their squad and elected to play for another side.
"CLT20 regulations state that when a player elects to play for their 'away' team, that team must pay the 'home' team $150,000 compensation per player. A 'home' team is classified as a team from the country a player is eligible to represent in international cricket."
A total of 12 teams will participate in the CLT20, including four IPL franchises Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, King XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings. The qualifying matches will commence from 13 September, followed by main leg that will start from 17 September Raipur.
