Manchester City have lost three out of their last four games in all competition, which includes their champions league opening weekend loss to Juventus. The Citizens are once again going to be in action in Europe's elite club competition against Borussia Mönchengladbach for their Group D tie at Borussia-Park on Wednesday.
The visitors, who are heading into the match as favourites, are searching from their first three points of the competition, which they have never won.
Manchester City have lost against teams like Crystal Palace in the Premier League, which might worry the Citizens, but they have plenty of firepower in the form of Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, De Bruyne amongst others to please their fans with three points.
Anything short of three points will be a huge disappointment for the English team, who have yet again found themselves in a tough group with Juventus and Sevilla as other two teams in Group D.
Manchester City, who currently lie in third place in the group standings, are aware of the importance of each and every game. Each victory will help them inch closer to the next stage. Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, wants his team to put in a good performance during tonight's game.
"We want to put in a good performance here, to give our best and get a win. We still have five games to go but we will have to be at our best here. It is not like in the Premier League, where you can make good on a defeat later," UEFA official website quoted Pellegrini as saying.
On paper, Manchester City should win the game. However, Mönchengladbach cannot be taken too lightly for they have shown some decent form in their domestic competition, and, also, not a single team in the champions league are weak, they have earned their place in the tournament, though, they might be the weakest team in the group.
Mönchengladbach come into the game after a comfortable win against Stuttgart and Augsburg in the Bundesliga. Pellegrini is surely not going to take it easy against Mönchengladbach.
"Now they have won two games in a row. It will be a tough game against a good team and we will have to play well to win," added Pellegrini.
Mönchengladbach can take advantage of City's downfall after starting the Premier League with some huge victories. However, Mönchengladbach coach, Andre Schubert, is not awestruck with big names in City's squad and believes Citizens' recent poor showing has nothing to do with tonight's game as well.
"Manchester City are a very good side with outstanding players, but for me, they are not an overwhelmingly superior side. We are not star-struck. We will try to stifle their qualities and show ours. Their recent defeats are nothing to do with this game. This is just about the Champions League," said Schubert.
