Looks like the makers of historical drama "Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat" are having a tough time finalising an actor to play the role of grown-up Ashoka on the show.
It was reported earlier that "Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat" would soon take a leap, after which Siddharth Nigam, who plays young Ashoka, will bid adieu to the show.
While several actors like Rishabh Sinha and Sidharth Shukla were considered for the role of grown-up Ashoka, the latest buzz is that the makers have approached Gautam Rode to play the lead role. Rode -- best known for his roles on shows like "Sawaswatichandra" and "Mahakumbh" -- is currently seen on popular mythological show "Suryaputra Karn."
According to reports, the makers of "Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat" are keen on roping in a popular actor who will justify the role of warrior Ashoka.
"The production house and channel wanted to rope in a well known name as leaps are always a risk. Ashoka is one of the top rated shows on the channel and the young Ashoka, played by Siddharth Nigam, has quite a fan following," IANS quoted a source as saying.
"Hence, they wanted to take a name like Gautam who has a tremendous fan following and has also proved himself as a versatile actor on television," the source added.
However, the report further states that as "Suryaputra Karn," which was likely to go off-air, has got an extension, and Rode will not be able to take up the offer.
