Colors' "Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat" is all set to take a leap, after which Mohit Raina will be seen in the larger than life character of grown-up emperor Ashoka. The popular actor, who shot for the promo recently, is yet to start shooting for the show.
Mohit has been working hard to fit into the character, and going by the teaser, it appears like the actor will be able to justify the role of warrior Ashoka and carry on the legacy of Siddharth Nigam, who won hearts with his excellent performance as the young Ashoka.
Talking about undergoing a physical transformation for the role of the warrior, Mohit, who won hearts with his portrayal of Mahadev in "Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev," told Asian Age that the team is still working on the overall appearance. "It is very exciting when you physically transform yourself for a character. Honestly, I haven't gathered much feedback on my look for the show as we are still working on the overall appearance. I have just shot for the promo so far," Mohit told the daily.
Although Mohit is excited to play the great emperor on the screen, he was initially apprehensive if he would fit the character. "I am very happy to play Ashoka. It's a monumental character. When the character has huge potential, automatically the job of the actor becomes easy. It's about an emperor's journey and how he conquered everything before finally embracing Buddhism. The role has a lot of variations. After Mahadev, it fit my profile. To be honest, I was apprehensive initially but seeing the canvas of the character and the efforts of the creatives I was convinced," he added.
Before Mohit was finalised, Rishabh Sinha, Sidharth Shukla and Gautam Rode were considered for the role of grown-up Ashoka. Television actress Somya Seth of "Kavya" fame will be playing the role of Kaurwaki, currently played by Reem Sheikh. Post-leap, "Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat" will also focus on the love story of Ashoka and Kaurwaki.
