Darshan's Chakravarthy has successfully completed its 7-day run in theatres on Thursday, April 20. The Kannada film has set the box office on fire and has ended its first week on a high note.
Chakravarthy opened to positive reviews last week. The critics hailed the movie, which has Deepa Sannidhi in the female lead role, and praised Darshan for starring in the film without his usual 'build-ups.' The Kannada movie had minted over Rs 5 crore on the first day and enjoyed superb occupancy rates in the next two days.
Post the weekend, the collection of the AV Chintan-directorial witnessed a normal dip, but continued to draw the mass audience to theatres in big numbers for the prime-time shows. Although the makers have not opened up on the collection of the flick, the trade experts predict the movie to have made a net collection of Rs 20 crore.
The good marketing and the word-of-mouth have also helped the film to attract audience in B and C centers. With no major competition in the horizon, the Darshan-starrer is expected to do good business for one more week.
Next week SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2 is hitting the screens in four languages and is expected to have a major impact on the business of the Kannada flick.
Darshan's Chakravarthy is about an underworld don Shankar, played by Darshan. Some sequences have been inspired by the real-life stories of the gangsters who operated in Bengaluru in the '80s and '90s.
The film hints at reformed gangster Muthappa Rai, although there are no direct references. Reports said a special screening is being arranged for him.
People are impressed with the performance of Darshan and the content of Chakravarthy.
