Noted lyricist Annamalai passed away on Tuesday, September 27, after suffering a severe heart attack. He was 49 and is survived by his wife and daughter.
Annamalai started his career as a journalist and graduated into a lyricist with the film Kummalam, which was released in the year 2003. Music director Vijay Antony encouraged him during initial years and associated with him in many of his films. They had churned out hit albums like Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Vettaikaran and Velayudham.
In his successful career, Annamalai penned over 100s of songs and some of the popular among them remains Chillax (Velayudham), Banaras Pattukatti (NInaithaley Inikkum), Idicha Paccharisi (Uthama Puthiran) and Pottadhu Pathala Mappula (Saguni).
He is the second lyricist to pass away at the young age in the recent memory after Na Muthukumar.
