Kollywood or Tamil cinema has witnessed several notable deaths in 2014. The popular celebrities had once entertained us through their movies, performances or music. Even though they are not physically with us, their contributions will remain with us forever. Let us take a look at the Tamil personalities who passed away in 2014.
Anjali Devi (1927-2014)
Yesteryear actress Anjali Devi was one of the earliest stars of the black and white era. She had worked with some of the big names of her times like MGR, NTR, Sivaji Ganeshan, etc. The veteran worked in over 350 films in different languages and even produced movies under her home banner Ashwini Pictures. She passed away on 13 January, 2014.
Balu Mahendra (1939-2014)
Balu Mahendra was a legend whose contribution to South films remains unmatched. He donned various hats of cinematographer, film editor and director apart from penning stories. He won endless awards including six national awards. He breathed his last on 13 February after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Filmmaker Rama Narayanan (1949-2014)
Multifaceted Rama Narayanan, who had directed over 130 movies in different languages, passed away in Singapore. He started as a writer and gradually became a director. He passed away on 22 June 2014 due to kidney related ailments.
Kadhal Dhandapani (1943-2014)
Actor Kadhal Dhandapani had acted in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. He was seen in more than 200 films in different languages as a fearsome baddie. He passed away on 20 July, 2014, following a cardiac arrest.
Ashok Kumar (1941-2014)
Cinematographer Ashok Kumar worked in above 125 films and language was never a barrier for this legend. Awards always came his way and he was honoured by all the leading film industries of India. He passed away on 22 October, 2014.
SS Rajendran (1928-2014)
Veteran SS Rajendran had tasted success as an actor, director and producer. He was also successful in politics. He died on 23 October following lung infection.
Tamil filmmaker C. Rudhraiya (1947-2014)
Rudraiah Chockalingam popularly known as C.Rudhraiya shot to fame with "Aval Appadithan". He had only two flicks to his credit. He passed away on 18 November, 2014.
