Turkish police released CCTV footage on 20 October that appears to show former BBC journalist Jacky Sutton walking inside the departure terminal of Istanbuls Ataturk airport early on Sunday (18 October) before she died. Sutton was found dead in a toilet at the airport on 18 October by Russian passengers.
The CCTV footage shows Sutton carrying a backpack and passing through security. She is also seen walking inside the terminal with other passengers near a moving walk-way.
According to Turkish media reports, she killed herself after she missed her connection flight to Iraq and said she did not have enough money to buy another ticket. However, it is unclear how exactly Sutton, who was travelling from London to Erbil, died.
Turkish authorities are investigating. Her friends and colleagues in the UK have publicly expressed their shock and said they find it difficult to believe that she committed suicide. The BBC said Sutton was the acting Iraq director for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR).
