The long-running procedural drama about mystery novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and his muse/NYPD detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic), "Castle," will air the Season 8 finale on Monday, May 16. This finale is especially interesting because it will reveal whether the ABC show has been renewed for yet another season or not.
The episode titled "Crossfire" will see Castle and Beckett taking on LokSat, the drug overlord, with the best lead they have. However, an unforeseen twist puts the case and their lives in jeopardy. This episode might end up killing the crime-fighting couple, or at least just Beckett, depending on the fate of "Castle."
Showrunner Alexi Hawley told TV Line that if "Castle" gets renewed by Friday, May 13, Monday's finale will end in such a way that it opens doors for the show to move forward. This will definitely see the death of Beckett.
Katic is definitely not returning for Season 9, and neither is Tamala Jones who plays Lanie. However, if "Castle" is renewed, Fillion, Seamus Dever, who plays Kevin Ryan, and Jon Huertas, who plays Javier Esposito, will return for the next season.

However, if they do not get the green light, then "Castle" Season 8 finale will tie up all the loose ends so that the fans get closure. This alternate storyline could see Beckett and Castle making it out alive, closing LokSat forever and suggesting that they will fight crime and live together forever.
As most fans already know, unlike their on-screen relationship, Katic and Fillion have been having issues in their real life. They are finding it difficult to work together, which is why Katic has not asked to return for another season.
Despite the title of the show, Katic's Beckett is a beloved character among all fans. Her absence has made ABC question the relevance of the show in the future.
All comments on the official Facebook page of "Castle" goes along the lines of: "I hope Castle will not have another season. No Beckett, no muse, no books, no writer, no Castle. So, I hope you'll not make another season of it. If you'll decide to do season 9, well, have fun with Nathan. If Beckett is out, I'm out."
