"Castle" will make a return on ABC this fall, and it is speculated that the new season will start with a car accident shown in "real time".
The season 6 finale of the drama series showed a car accident involving lead character Richard Castle and, when season 7 goes on air, fans will witness the immediate fallout of the crash, claims reports.
"We feel like, given the way we left off, we have an obligation to start exactly where we ended," Andrew Marlowe, the executive producer of the show, told TVLine. "So we'll be picking up in real time."
Meanwhile, it is also being speculated that Nathan Fillion, who plays Castle in the series, may not return for season 7.
"I don't know how it's going to work out after the untimely death of Castle in season 6," he hinted about his exit from the show at the Dallas Convention.
However, there are doubts whether Fillion will exit the show.
"There's always stuff floating in the back of our minds, but it all depends on James Brolin's availability and finding a story that makes sense and honors the characters," Marlowe clarified to the Website about rumors of Fillion's character being return off.
"We know that there's a cost to ending a season this way. We know that people are looking for that wedding moment, and that's a moment that we're going to get to. But there's still some storytelling that we have to get through before we get there," he further stated.
Interestingly, it is also being said that "Castle" could have a spin-off called "Castle-Legacy".
"I know that Molly Quinn is constantly pushing for a Castle spin-off. We're calling it Castle: Legacy," Fillion jibed about the possibilities of the spin-off at the convention.
Talks regarding the spin-off has further ripened speculations that season 7 could be the last one for "Castle".
However, Marlowe suggested in an interview that he never touted season 7 to be the final one.
"I never declared season 7 as the final season. What I said is that there's an organic ending to the show and the characters will tell me when that is. I listen to the characters, and there's going to be a point where we've had the best storytelling that these characters can give us," he stressed.
"Castle" was renewed for season 7 on 8 May. The cast of "Castle" includes Stana Katic, Molly C Quinn, Susan Sullivan and Nathan Fillion.
