Five persons, including a child and a woman, died on the spot when a car collided with a speeding truck on National Highway 8 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Tuesday night.
The bodies of all the five occupants were sent for post-mortem. The deceased, who were originally from Maharashtra, were travelling to Jaipur from Ajmer on the night of 27 January.
The incident occurred in Jaipur's Dudu Panchayat when a car with five passengers onboard collided with a truck coming from the other direction, according to a PTI report. The truck was reportedly being driven at a high speed.
Dudu SHO Kaluram said that the truck had jumped the divider and hit the car from the front. Police said that the driver was under the influence of alcohol as well. The driver has been detained and a case has been registered against him.
Last year, the Rajasthan Government had vowed to reduce the number of road accidents. The state government had decided to repair roads, increase awareness campaigns and enforce traffic rules strictly as measures to prevent accidents from occurring in future.
