In what appears to be a shocking case of cannibalism, a woman was found eating her two-year-old daughter's flesh on Wednesday (24 June) in West Bengal, India.
The shocking incident happened at Gopalpur.
According to a report by Mail Online, Dablu Mondal, 41, found his two-year-old niece Bharati Mondal bleeding profusely as her mother Pramila, 40, was cutting her scalp and eating her flesh.
Dablu rescued the child and rushed her to a hospital where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
"It was around noon and I was resting at home when I heard loud cries of Bharati," Dablu was quoted as saying by Mail Online.
"I ran to check on her but there the scene I saw was beyond shocking. Bharati was bleeding profusely as Pramila was eating the flesh of her head. I immediately snatched away Bharati from Pramila and rushed her to Malda Medical College and Hospital where she is admitted to ICU."
The brutally injured child is currently being treated at the Malda Medical College and Hospital, but she could be transferred to a better hospital in Kolkata.
According to the report, locals gathered around the house of Pramila after hearing the news of the incident, caught her, tied her up with ropes and beat her. The police later came and dispersed the mob and sent the woman to a hospital for treatment.
"He (Dablu) there saw Pramila eating the flesh of Bharati's head. Soon villagers learnt about the incident and reached Pramila's house and started beating her in anger. We rescued the woman and sent her to hospital," said police inspector Kishna Das.
The police are filing a case against the mother for the horrifying act.
The report went on to add that Pramila has alcoholic problem. She has three children with her husband Habu Mondal, who had gone to Delhi to work as a labourer last year and has not been seen since then.
