Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was quite a sight at the Cannes Film Festival 2016 in her heavily embellished Ali Younes and Elie Saab gowns, but that's not the only reason vshe's in news for. Her film, "Sarbjit," was screened at the fest, and the response has been positive thus far.
According to a BollywoodLife report, the audience was left mesmerised by her performance and her de-glam avatar. In a video shared online, people can be seen saying how impressed they were with the film, adding that the cast delivered fine performances and the film will surely win awards.
With the kind of hard work the cast and crew have put in to make the biopic, the praises don't come across as surprising.
The central cast underwent drastic transformations. Randeep Hooda, who plays the titular role, shed 18 kg in less than a month to look starved. Sure it made him weak, but the actor didn't mind. Aishwarya's character ages in the film; she plays a 50-year-old too. Make-up artist Subhash Shinde had to face quite a few challenges to achieve the look.
"It is very difficult to present an actress in a complete de-glam avatar. I have challenged myself at regular intervals. When I work on the look of a particular actor, my aim is to change their image for the viewers. The actors in my film look unlike what they are in real life," he told Catch News.
"Sarbjit" opens in theatres on May 20. Directed by Omung Kumar, the film stars Richa Chaddha in a key role.
