WhatsApp is the largest cross-platform instant messaging application, which is used by over a billion users around the world to share messages, calls, video calls, images, videos, GIFs and even important documents. Sometimes managing those multiple chats at the same time can get challenging, and eventually land you in trouble for sending a message to the wrong person.
If you are in an area with good internet coverage, sending a text, image, GIF or even a video will take not more than a few seconds. There's a very small window to cancel a message that's being sent to the wrong contact and you can see your reputation shatter in front of your own eyes.
To save you from such embarrassments, WhatsApp is going to launch a feature that will let you recall misdirected messages within a five-minute window. That's pretty sweet!
The information came from a fan site WABetaInfo, which tests new WhatsApp features while they're in beta testing, and revealed that the "Recall" feature will be introduced sooner than later. Once available, you'll be able to undo all types of sent messages, including images, videos, GIFs, documents and even quoted status replies, the Independent reported.
This is not the first time such a feature has been spotted in the early testing phase. The same publication source had shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp chat in December last year, revealing two new options – "Edit" and "Revoke" - on a sent message. Later in May, the feature popped up online again with a more detailed explanation of how it would work on Android and iOS. But the feature has largely skipped the public rollout ever since.
With the latest report in sight, the recall feature, after multiple renaming efforts, on WhatsApp will soon be a reality. The feature can be enabled in WhatsApp version 2.17.30+, but it is still a hidden feature that's disabled by default. Once the feature is ready for public rollout, the developers will start pushing it out any moment.
