After the emphatic triumph at Trent Bridge, the ongoing Test series between India and England has opened up. While the visitors seem to have got the momentum, there are plenty of questions gaping at the hosts. They have to sort out issues with the batting order and with the injury concern to Jonny Bairstow have to look at his replacement too.
However, Virat Kohli's team looks settled and barring a few tactical changes, there are not too many modifications expected and as such, look favourites heading into Southampton.
After their win in the third Test, India are on the cusp of something very rare, a feat which has not been done in the last 82 years in cricket. If Kohli's team manage to win at Southampton and then at Oval, they will be the first team since 1936-37 to stage a comeback from 0-2 down and clinch the series 3-2.
Kohli sounds confident
"We definitely believe we can come back from 0-2 to 3-2, we just need to keep moving forward, keep winning. We wouldn't be 2-1 if we didn't believe. The respect and the belief in the change room is important, and one must keep wanting to win," captain Kohli said after winning the third Test match.
Back in 1936-37 one Donald Bradman led Australia and after being down 0-2 in the first two matches, they made an emphatic comeback to clinch the series 3-2, and this is what Kohli's team should aim for.
Captain Bradman took matters in his own hand and slammed 270 at Melbourne to set up a massive 365-run win for Australia and gave the Australians hope of a comeback. India also face the same situation as captain Kohli has been in blazing form and was the man of the match at Nottingham.
"One match at a time, we live in the present, okay? One game at a time. We move to Southampton and start afresh. Take a fresh guard. 2018," Ravi Shastri said.
The coach is also mighty impressed with Virat Kohli's ethics and said that the captain is driven and when he takes the guard at Southampton he will not think about his scores but start from scratch.
"I promise you, Virat will forget these two innings now and take guard again as if he hadn't scored a run in the series," he further added.
