A teenager of Indian origin died in Malaysia after a ruthless assault last week when he was beaten with helmets, burned on his back and sodomised with an object by five youth. T Nhaveen, 18, succumbed to the injuries on Thursday at a hospital in Penang's George Town, according to reports.
The incident took place on June 10 when Nhaveen was buying burgers along with his friend T Previin at Taman Tun Sardon in Gelugor. Two youth who knew them started teasing the two, which led to a nasty fight.
Previin, 19, somehow escaped with eye injuries. Nhaveen, on the other hand, left for a field in Jalan Kaki Bukit where the two youth were joined by three other teenagers. The five attacked Nhaveen with crash helmets. He was also sodomised and his back had burns from cigarettes.
Due to the brutal assault, Nhaveen suffered internal bleeding in his head and abdomen. He was later pronounced brain dead. Inspector general of police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was reported as saying that the five were Nhaveen's former classmates and that his death was later reclassified as murder.
Nhaveen's mother D Shanti added that her son was bullied by one of the suspects three years back for being soft. "My son is dead. Don't let this happen to anyone else's child," she said.
Reports say that this is the second death in less than two weeks to spark outrage in Malaysia about bullying. On June 1, navy cadet Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain, 21, died after he was allegedly tortured and burned with an iron.
