Kerala's Thrissur native Hanan Hamid, who was recently trolled for selling fish in a college uniform, will donate Rs 1.5 lakh to Kerala Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
According to Hanan, she will donate the money to support those who have lost everything in the Kerala floods.
The third-year B.Sc student said that she had received the amount from well-wishers after her story went viral on various social media platforms. They came forward to support her financially after knowing that she was the sole earner for the family.
"I am merely giving back what I received from the people. Now they are all suffering and it is the least I can do," The News Minute quoted Hanan as saying.
Social media has now called her a 'hero' for donating such a huge amount.
Kishore Mishra posted on Facebook, "God Bless the girl. Kudos and shame on those who ridiculed her with Fatwa."
Another FB user, Venkatathiriramaswamy wrote, "She earned money after doing an odd job of selling fish, which was badly needed for her education and family expenses, it's a really brave act that too this young age, I quite admired her acts of living in the survival of the fittest, our social network has defamed her but she withstood with all abuses. Well done."
As per Hanan, she started receiving donation between Rs 500 and Rs 2000 from the different individuals across the country. All the supporters sent money directly into her account, which later added up to Rs. 1.5 lakh. And now she has decided to give away the whole of the donate money, keeping only the money that she had saved by doing odd jobs.
Kerala is facing the worst floods in a century and there is hardly any mobile connectivity in the state, Hanan stated, "I have been trying to deposit the money into the CM's relief fund. But I've had no mobile connectivity and the banks too have been shut. So I will either transfer the amount tomorrow or directly meet and hand over the cheque to the CM in two days."
The young girl further said that she can't step out of the place due to the heavy rains. However, she stressed, "Thankfully, I don't have to worry about my house drowning as I don't have one."
Hanan is pursuing graduation at Al Azhar college in Thodupuzha and she was taking care of her education and family by doing odd jobs such as selling fish after work. Currently, she is staying in a hospital located in Ernakulam's Kothamangalam. Notably, her mother is residing with the relatives and her brother is put up in a boarding school.
