Honda cars India has jumped on the price hike bandwagon, following the infrastructure cess announced during the Union Budget 2016-17. Honda said that the prices of its models in India will be increased by up to Rs 79,000 depending on the model.
Other car makers like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Motors and Hyundai have also increased the prices of their cars. With the hike, Honda's small car Brio's price went up by up to Rs 6,000, while the Jazz and Mobilio got a price increase of up to Rs 19,500 and Rs 37,000 respectively.
The prices of Honda City got a hike of up to Rs 38,100 and the company's top-ranging model CR-V saw a hike in the range of Rs 66,500 to Rs 79,000. The prices of Honda's newly launched Amaze compact sedan will not be affected by the hike.
The hike comes after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced Monday, Feb.29, in Budget 2016 that the government would levy infrastructure tax on all four-wheelers. The proposed infrastructure cess includes 1 percent additional infrastructure tax on small petrol and CNG cars and 2.5 percent on diesel cars. The government also proposed 4 percent infrastructure cess on SUVs and other luxury cars.
