The BSE Sensex fell by 0.45 percent in the opening trade on Wednesday because of the long weekend ahead. Traders are precautious, as the market will be closed on Thursday and Friday for holidays.
The 30-share BSE index was down 0.45 percent at 17,517.66 points and the Nifty was down 0.57 percent at 5,328.25 points. The NSE's banking index was down 0.9 percent.
State Bank Of India shares were fell by 1 percent at 2,150.30 rupees and shares of ICICI Bank was lower by1.5 percent at 894.70 rupees.
