In a span of three seasons, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" has gone on to become one of the highest rated TV shows among fans and critics alike. It, therefore, comes as no surprise that Fox has renewed the cop comedy for Season 4, which is expected to premiere in September.
While Fox has not announced an official air date for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Season 4, looking back on the trends of the first three seasons, it is safe to assume that the last week of September would be an ideal time for the premiere. Considering the show now airs on Tuesdays, it is also fair to assume that the premiere date will most probably fall on Sept. 27, 2016.
When the show returns, fans will finally learn what really happened to Jake (Andy Samberg) and Captain Holt (Andre Braugher), who go by Larry and Greg, respectively. The last we saw them, the Nine-Nine had tricked Bob Anderson (Dennis Haysbert) into revealing all the files he had on Jimmy "The Butcher" Figgis.

Although the information helped destroy Figgis' empire, the man himself remains at large. When the squad was celebrating their victory, Figgis call Jake and makes threats about killing him and Holt. In the closing scene of the Season 3 finale episode, Jake and Holt are seen living as neighbours in Coral Palms, Florida, under the aliases Larry and Greg.
It is not known if Holt's husband Kevin (Marc Evan Jackson) and Jake's girlfriend Amy (Melissa Fumero) have moved with them. Kevin could very well find job as a professor in Florida, and considering he is married to Holt, Kevin could very well move across the country to be with him. However, despite having admitted to "really loving" Jake, it is quite unfathomable for Amy to leave her job to be with him.
Also, Amy could be working with the rest of the squad to put Figgis behind the bars so that the duo can return for good. She will have a comrade in Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) till Jake does come back. After all, Rosa's boyfriend is in hiding from Figgis too.
