Arctic Monkeys and One Direction walked away with two gongs apiece at Brits Awards 2014 on Wednesday, while David Bowie beat youngsters to British Male Solo Artist award at 67.
Hosted by James Corden, the award ceremony kicked off at the O2 Arena, London, with a performance by Arctic Monkeys who sang their track "R U Mine?". Artistes like Beyonce, Katy Perry, Pharrell, Ellie Goulding, Pharrell & Nile Rodgers, Lorde and Bruno Mars also performed at the glittering event.
Arctic Monkeys won two awards - British Group and MasterCard British Album of the Year - and One Direction also bagged two gongs - Global Success and British Video. However, the main highlight of the ceremony was 67-year-old David Bowie beating youngsters Jake Bugg, James Blake, John Newman and Tom Odell to win British Male Solo Artist award.
David Bowie didn't turn up for the event to collect the gong but his friend Kate Moss surprised everyone by appearing on his behalf in a Ziggy Stardust costume that was worn by Bowie at Rainbow Concert in 1972. The supermodel collected the award from Noel Gallagher and read out a statement by the iconic singer that read "Scotland, stay with us."
