Tibetan protestors gathered outside the luxury resort where Chinese President Xi Jinping is staying were arrested by Goa Police on Saturday, October 15, ahead of the Brics (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit 2016.
The members of the Tibet Youth Congress (TYC) were protesting the illegal occupation of Tibet by China.
"Today we are here to demand Xi Jinping end the illegal occupation of Tibet. The world needs to hear this," Tenzing Jimmy, President of the TYC, said in a statement.
TYC protestors were seen holding placards that read slogans like "Free Tibet and end the occupation" and "China OUT of Tibet now" in Goa's commercial and cultural capital Margao. Another Tibetan group has uploaded a video of President Xi's posters in Goa being blackened.
Although TYC had vowed to continue protesting despite the high security in South Goa, where the summit is being held, the police have detained them.
President Xi has arrived in Goa. He will also hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
