The Karnataka government has imposed a night curfew in the state from 11 pm to 5 am till January 2, 2021.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said, "In view of the new strain of coronavirus, it has been decided to impose night curfew from today to January 2 between 11 PM to 5 AM. I request everyone to cooperate."

To prevent the spread of the new strain of virus found in the UK

Addressing media, state's Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said that the night curfew has been imposed to prevent the spread of the new strain of virus found in the United Kingdom.

On being asked if Christmas celebrations would be allowed, Sudhakar said, "Between December 23 and January 2, no function or festive celebration is allowed to take place after 11 pm. It applies to every kind of functions."

Whereas the State has effectively implemented COVID 19 containment measures through strictly enforcing COVID appropriate behaviour and aggressive tracking, testing and isolating, as a result, there is sustained decline in the number of fresh COVID 19 cases in the State for over 2 months now.

Whereas, in the above context, with a view to consolidating the substantial gain that has been achieved in the State against the spread of COVID-19. and to fully overcome the pandemic, the State Government vide Order of even number dated 27.11.2020, issued guidelines for surveillance, containment and caution of COVID-19 in the State which will be in force up to 31-12-2020.

Whereas, a new variant of SARS- CoV 2 virus has been detected in the United Kingdom, which is spreading and growing rapidly in the United Kingdom. It has also been reported that some recent returnees from the United Kingdom to the State have tested positive for COVID 19. However, the samples of these patients are undergoing a further test to determine if they have contracted a new variant of the virus.

Hence, it is necessitated to take additional containment measures to combat the spread of a new variant of SARS-CoV 2.

Therefore, in the exercise of the powers, conferred under Section 24 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the undersigned in the capacity of Chairman, State Executive Committee, hereby directs imposition of night curfew from 11.00 pm to 5.00 am starting 24 December until January 1, 2021, (5.00 AM, January 2, 2021) as per below-given conditions, for strict implementation by Commissioner BBMP, Police Commissioners, District Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, other Heads of Departments and Authorities.

  1.  The movement of individuals shall remain strictly prohibited between 11.00 pm to 5.00 am, except for essential activities.
  2. There shall be no restriction in movement of all types of goods through trucks, goods vehicle or any goods carriers, including empty vehicles.
  3. All industries/companies/organizations which require operations at night shall be permitted to operate with 50% staff. Movement of employees of such an organization shall be allowed on producing valid ID card issued by their respective Organization/Institution.
  4. Industries/factories which require 24/7 operations will be allowed to operate without any restrictions.
  5. Movement of the long-distance night bus. train services and air services are permitted.
  6. To and fro movement of taxis and auto are permitted for dropping/pickup of people to/from has stops/railway stations/Airports. The movement will be allowed on displaying valid tickets.
  7. Midnight Christmas Mass on 24° night shall be permitted as per guidelines issued on 17/12/2020.
  8. Celebration of Christmas sad New Year festivities shall be as per the guidelines issued vide Order Na RD 465 TNR 2020, dated 17- 12-2020.
