In a shocking turn of events, Baba Siddique has been shot dead. The former Maharashtra minister suffered three bullet wounds when unidentified men open fired at him. Siddique was at his son, Zeeshan's office when the incident happened. So far, two people have been taken into custody.
The former MLA and member of Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP is known not just for his political party and work but also for his lavish Eid parties. From Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan to some of the biggest names of the industry turn up at Siddique's home every year for his grand parties.
The news of Baba Siddique's death has come as a shock to not just his family and party members but to the entire nation. As per reports, two to three people who were waiting to meet him at his son's office, opened fire at the businessman-cum-politician. Siddique reportedly suffered a bullet wound in his chest and also in his stomach.
An aide standing next to Siddique also suffered a gunshot in the leg as the assailants shot and ran away around 9.30 pm. The crowd and others couldn't notice what had happened as due to Dassehra celebrations there were many crackers being burnt on the road. Apart from this, there were two major political rallies taking place at the same time on the road. He was rushed to Lilavati hospital.
However, it was too late by then. As by the time his aides and other party members reached the hospital, he had passed away. From top NCP and Congress leaders to his son, everyone rushed to the hospital once the news spread. Siddique's close friend, Sanjay Dutt also rushed to the hospital. Two people have been detained so far and crime branch has already begun its investigation.
There are reports of business rivalry being the reason behind the assassination. Siddique had quit Congress to join Ajit Pawar's NCP in February, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders have slammed the MahaYuti regime for the killing of Siddique. It has also demanded the resignation of the Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
