At least eight people died and nine injured when a vehicle fell into a gorge in rain-hit Uttarakhand on Sunday. The state has been hit by torrential downpours over the past week, making travelling in the hilly terrain really difficult.
The incident took place in the Kalsi tehsil of the state, local sources told International Business Times, India.
The cops said they are investigating whether the utility vehicle fell into the gorge due to some natural phenomenon — like a landslide, flash floods or the road being washed away — or there was some other angle involved — like the driver losing control for some reason, or some other vehicle hitting it.
According to the Indian Express, the Dehradun district administration has declared Chakrata one of the areas of the district that are most prone to accidents.
