A tunnel under construction has collapsed in east China's Fujian province, trapping around 21 workers.
"An expressway tunnel under construction collapses in east China's Fujian, more than 20 workers trapped," tweeted China Xinhua News.
Wreckage estimated to be around 5,000 cubic metres has blocked the tunnel, which is under construction. The tunnel was being expanded to accommodate the expressway, which links Xiamen City of Fujian and Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.
The workers were trapped after "a 30-meter long section of the expressway tunnel in Longyan City collapsed", a rescue official told Xinhua, according to Business Standard.
The rescue operations are on full swing and so far, there is no information on any causality.
This is not the first time that a tunnel under construction has collapsed in the country. On 11 August, at least 13 people were trapped after a tunnel under construction collapsed southwest China's Guizhou Province, local authorities told Xinhua.
