Superstar Mahesh Babu's latest outing "Brahmotsavam" has shattered the opening week collection record of power star Pawan Kalyan's "Sardaa Gabbar Singh" (SGS) at the U.S. box office.
"Brahmotsavam," which was released in 200 screens in North America, received record-breaking response in the country in the premiere shows, but the business began falling on the following days. Taran Adarsh tweeted on May 23, "Telugu film #Brahmotsavam - USA: Thu pre $ 560,274, Fri $ 249,756, Sat $ 174,667, Sun $ 68,824. Total: $ 1,053,521 [₹ 7.12 cr]. @Rentrak."
The Srikanth Addala-directed family entertainer hit rockbottom on Monday and its business remained low on the following weekdays too. "Brahmotsavam" has collected $38,363 at the U.S. box office in the next three days, taking its six-day U.S. total collection to $1,092,075 (Rs. 7.31 crore).
The makers of "Brahmotsavam" have not revealed its seven-day collection. The film is expected to cross $1.10 million mark in seven days. Taran Adarsh tweeted on May 26, "Telugu film #Brahmotsavam - USA: Mon $ 13,016, Tue $ 13,505, Wed $ 11,842. Total: $ 1,092,075 [₹ 7.31 cr]. @Rentrak."
"Sardaar Gabbar Singh" collected $1,037,193 at the U.S. box office in the first week. The movie has raked in a total of $1,070,130 (Rs. 7.12 crore) in the country in five weeks. It has been the second highest grossing Telugu movie in 2016. Now, "Brahmotsavam" has smashed its lifetime business record and landed in the second place in the chart of the highest grossing Telugu films of this year.
"Brahmotsavam" is Mahesh Babu's fifth film to surpass the $1 million mark at the U.S. box office. It has become the third film to achieve this rare feat in the country after "Nannaku Prematho" and "Sardaar Gabbar Singh." However, it has failed to beat the record of Mahesh Babu's last release "Srimanthudu," which collected $2,312,648 at the U.S. box office in its opening week.
