Mahesh Babu's "Brahmotsavam" has tanked at the United States box office, and its overseas distributor, Classics Entertainment, has denied the allegations that poor planning of its release was the reason for the disastrous performance.
"Brahmotsavam" opened to a decent response in the premiere shows in the U.S. on Thursday night, but the negative word-of-mouth reviews took a toll on its business on the following days. Leading trade analyst Taran Adarsh â€tweeted on Sunday, "Telugu film #Brahmotsavam - USA: Thu previews $ 560,274, Fri $ 245,960, Sat $ 171,680. Total: $ 977,914 [â'¹ 6.59 cr]. @Rentrak (sic)"
It is being said that Classics Entertainment's poor planning for the film's release was responsible for the poor audience response towards "Brahmotsavam" at the U.S box office in its opening weekend. Upset at the speculations, the bosses of the distribution house took to its official Twitter handle to slam the reports.
In a series of posts, they wrote, "For all the fans Don't Blame us on Poor Planning.. Content was given to us on Tuesday Morning IST. We tried our best to get to As many loc. No Distributor can do anything if content is given to Overseas after monday especially for a release with 200 + locations. Hit Vachinappu Collections gurinchi matladi, Flop vachinappu planning gurinchi matlada koodadu brothers!!NO Distributor wants to loose money."
Classics Entertainment has shelled out a hefty sum of Rs. 13.20 crore on the overseas theatrical rights of "Brahmotsavam," which is the highest price for the rights of a Mahesh Babu film.
However, the bosses at the studio are not completely disheartened by this failure. They tweeted, "Any How This is not end of world. We hope to bring many more Blockbusters of @urstrulyMahesh to Overseas in future."
"Srimanthudu," which was also distributed by Classics Entertainment, has collected $2,062,768 at the U.S. box office. Taran Adarsh had tweeted on Aug 10, 2015, "Telugu film #Srimanthudu crosses $ 2 mn in its opening weekend in USA. Thu pre till Sun: $ 2,062,768 [â'¹ 13.18 cr]. FABULOUS! @RentrakIndia." The collection of "Brahmotsavam" is not half of that bagged by Mahesh Babu's last outing.
