Veteran filmmaker BR Ishara passed away on Wednesday morning at Mumbai's Criticare Hospital, Juhu, where he was treated for tuberculosis.
The late director and vice president of FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees), Ishara is best known for directing films like "Hum Do Hamare Do","Zaroorat", "Milap", "Ek Nazar", "Chetna" and several others.
He had been keeping unwell for a long time and was undergoing physiotherapy treatment before threathing his last at around 1:30 p.m.
His last rites will be performed on Wednesday at around 4:00 at the Vile Parle crematorium.
Lyricist Javed Akhtak and wife Shabana Azmi paid their last tribute to the filmmaker at his house.
Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, who worked with him in a few film including "Ek nazar" took to Twitter to express his sadness.
"The well known writer director BR Ishara passed away early this morning. Brought in fresh style subject for films. Did "Ek Nazar," he tweeted.
"BR Ishara - BabuDa, took a departure from conventional style of film making in early 70's - novel and appreciated by all," wrote Big B, adding, "He directed and made 'Ek Nazar' with Jaya and me before our marriage... some of the most melodious music of LP."
"Unfortunate Mr BR Ishara passed away!may god bless his soul with peace!" actor Manoj Bajpayee tweeted.
Indian film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, tweeted, "Saddened to hear about the demise of veteran film-maker B.R. Ishara. RIP."
Filmmaker Sayed Asif Jah Rizvi wrote, "Noted Bollywood Filmmaker, B.R. Ishara passed away. He filmed 34 feature films between 1969 & 1996. He was married to Actress Rehana Sultana."
"RIP B.R.Ishara,director & writer, one of first few people my dad met n worked with when he first came to Mumbai," actor Rahul Aggarwal wrote.
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit tweeted, "B.R.Ishara was well known for his bold themes made long back which are followed by directors now.RIP"
The yesteryears actors like Parveen Babi, Danny Denzongpa, Rehana (his wife), Reena Roy, Shatrughan Sinha were launched by him.
Lately, it was reported that the director was facing financial problem to meet his medical expenses.
