Vijender Singh has been impeccable inside the boxing ring since turning pro, and has defeated all his opponents so far, maintaining his unbeaten streak. The Indian boxer also clinched the title WBO Asia Pacific Super middleweight title in his last fight, defeating Kerry Hope, and Vijender is set to defend his new title against Francis Cheka on 17th of this month in New Delhi.
The fight promises to be a huge one with confident Vijender in great shape and Cheka being an experienced fighter, with 300 rounds under his name. Vijender has been impressive in all his fights so far, but this fight against Cheka will be his biggest test in his professional career.
The Indian boxer has won six of his seven bouts via knockout and has set an eye for a knockout win against Cheka, which is going to be challenging. But one knows that Vijender has it in him to knock down the Tanzanian boxer.
Vijender, along with his trainer Lee Beard, has already chalked out some plans for the clash, and the boxer has been training on his punches for more than two months now. He will hope to implement that into full-effect against Cheka.
"I have to win and win in good fashion, so that means a knockout. I don't know how far he is willing to go, how much he is willing to take. I am very well aware of the kind of challenge that lies ahead of me, Cheka is very experienced but I am also putting in double the efforts," Press Trust of India quoted Vijender as saying.
"Lee and I have a perfect game plan in place to make sure that I have an answer to every punch every hit that Cheka has to throw at me. We have been working on my punches and training for almost 2 months now. I am very confident that my plan against him will work out well."
Vijender might have been serious on training, and getting in perfect shape and fitness for the match, but this bout is also going to be about nerves for the unbeaten boxer. There is no doubt, Cheka is the biggest name he is facing in the pro circuit.
