Andre Berto might be an underdog when he faces Floyd 'Money' Mayweather on 12 September at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but the former two time welterweight champion feels his athletic ability will help him defeat pound-for-pound king.
Mayweather has been mighty impressive in his professional boxing career as he is still undefeated in the sport as his record reads 48-0, which includes 26 knockout wins. Mayweather's fight with Berto is his last professional bout after which the boxer will hang his gloves. The American announced about his retirement plans after defeating Manny Pacquiao in the fight of the century in May.
After defeating Pacquaio, Mayweather suffering defeat in his final bout is something which is not expected even in the wildest of dreams, but Berto has some plans to fight against one of the greatest professional boxers the world has ever seen.
"The thing with Floyd is, most guys he fights aren't as athletic as he is. But I am... If you come at Floyd fast but don't have a plan and don't have good footwork, it's too easy for him. If you have a guy that's as athletic as him, it gives him problems," Boxing News Online quoted Berto as saying.
Andre Berto looked second best when he took on relatively big names such as Victor Ortiz in 2011 and Robert Guerrero in 2012 and considering both these boxers having suffered huge defeat to Mayweather, it would take something very special from Berto to hand 'Money' his first defeat.
Berto, who is undergoing training to meet Mayweather in perfect shape, feels this is the healthiest he has ever been.
"From an energy aspect I feel great. It's my first time in a while coming into a fight with no injuries. This is the healthiest I've been since I can remember," said Berto.
"We're here. It's my time to see him. He can have his 'MayVinci' code because we put in the work. The whole team is confident. I'm going to do what I do."
There seems to be an air of confidence in Berto as he feels that he has speed and a crazy uppercut as well.
"There is a lot more to me than just walking guys down. I have speed, I have power, I have a crazy uppercut, I can move to the side. There are a lot of ways I can get it done."
