British boxer Amir Khan has come close to a bout against two great pound-for-pound boxers, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, in the past, but the bout could never be finalised. Once again, Khan, who is said to be in the negotiation table for a fight against Pacquiao next year, cannot let this fight slip by as it may prove to be his last opportunity.
The Brit, if he wants to be regarded on par with boxers like Pacquiao, needs to prove his mettle against such quality boxers.
Speculations were rife regarding a possible Khan vs Mayweather clash for the latter's farewell fight, but that too did not come to fruition as 'The Best Ever' decided to fight against Haiti-American boxer, Andre Berto. This not only disappointed Khan, but also boxing fans, who will want at least the Khan vs Pacquiao bout to materialise.
The 2004 Athens Olympics silver medallist is positive that the fight will shape up. There have been reports, which suggest that the fight is not going to be fought in Las Vegas, which has primarily become a hub for mega bouts. This time around, the mega clash could head over to the Middle East.
"I want to fight Manny Pacquiao. Me and Manny have been friends for a long time but sometimes you have to put friendship to one side," Daily Mail quoted Khan as saying.
If the fight does shape up, it could be an interesting match with both the boxers having been sparring partners as well, which means they have fought inside the same ring, though, only a selected few, including their trainers and staff have witnessed the bout.
Khan stated no one has seen their bout, as he has never leaked the videos.
"We've done plenty of rounds in the ring together, sparring. No-one's ever seen the sparring sessions, I haven't leaked any videos," said Khan.
What makes the fight even more interesting is the fact that the current trainer of Pacquiao, Freddie Roach, has also trained Khan.
The Brit believes with him knowing 'Pacman' and his strategies, he should be able to hand Pacquaio his second straight loss.
"We had the same trainer so as a storyline, it will be a great fight. With what I've learned in the last few years, I can definitely fight Manny Pacquiao, and beat Manny Pacquiao."
Even if the fight takes place, there is no chance for it to shape up this year, as Manny Pacquiao, who underwent shoulder surgery after his clash with Mayweather, will only be up for it in 2016.
