Boxing fans might be eagerly waiting for May 2, 2015, when one of the biggest matches in the history of boxing has been tentatively scheduled between American Floyd Mayweather and Filipino Manny Pacquiao, but the fight might not shape up at all.
Manny Pacquiao has agreed to all terms and conditions, so the only thing left for the American is to sign the deal, but, unfortunately it has not happened as yet.
Now, there is a feeling amongst the boxing fraternity that the match would not take place.
Pacquiao feels that the American is afraid that he might lose the match.
''We're waiting for the signed contract from them. Me and my promoter, we both agree to the terms and conditions. Whatever he wants, we agreed to that already. We're just waiting for the signed contract," said Pacquiao.
''You know first, before, his reason was drug testing. But he knows that's not a problem before. I already agreed to whatever his terms and conditions. He is just making that alibi, to make a reason to avoid the fight.''
"It's good [that I am the underdog]. When I fought Oscar De Le Hoya, it was 8-1. If I'm favoured, I'm very confident and not focussed. If I'm an underdog, it's like 200 percent focus in training.''
Pacquiao is not sure as to why a deal has not been finalized for the mega match.
''I don't know. Maybe, he is scared to lose,'' told Manny Pacquiao to boxingscene.com.
It would be a huge disappointment if the match does not take place. It is Manny Pacquiao, who seems to be more than ready for the big fight, with the Filipino even releasing a statement giving a one month deadline for the American to take a decision and sign the deal.
The deal could see the American earn as much as $120 million, but still Mayweather might not fight Pacquiao with the chance being he will instead fight against Miguel Cotto or Amir Khan.
One wonders if Mayweather is scared of losing his unbeaten 47-0 record. If the American fights Cotto, he would be the clear favourite and improve his wins further as well, while fighting the WBO Welterweight Champion, Pacquiao could be a tough ask.
Mayweather fought Cotto in 2012 as well, which he won .
It is not only the fans, who want the welterweight battle to take place as scheduled on May 2, the same day in which Canelo Alvarez is scheduled to fight as well.
Even Oscar De La Hoya, the President of the Golden Boy Promotions president wants the big match and is even ready to move his client Canelo Alvarez's fight to a later date.
But, De La Hoya has made it clear that the dates might not change if Floyd Mayweather does not take on Manny Pacquiao.
"If they make Mayweather-Pacquiao, then there is going to be change of date - and we will do it out of respect for the fans," said De La Hoya. "People have been waiting for [that fight for] the past seven years, but if it's Mayweather with Cotto or Mayweather with Khan, then we'll see.
"We have many options. We'll speak with HBO to determine if it's going to be an event on HBO Pay-Per-View or [regular] HBO. We will be moving the pieces in the coming days."
