"Yennai Arindhaal" had a good second weekend in Chennai, but the movie has failed to surpass the collection of other recent big films like "I", "Lingaa" and "Kaththi".
Ajith's movie is in the fourth position raking in ₹4.9 crore by the end of the second weekend in Chennai from 249 shows. In the same time period, other big movies like Vikram starrer "I", Rajinikanth starrer "Lingaa" and Ilayathalapathy Vijay's "Kaththi" performed better than "Yennai Arindhaal".
Vikram's "I" is in the numero uno position by making ₹6.88 crore from 363 shows by the end of second weekend. reported Behindwoods. Rajinikanth's "Lingaa" is in the second position by making ₹5.35 crore from 270 shows.
"Kaththi" is in the next position by making ₹5.32 crore from 306 shows. We have to note that this movie and "I" was released during festive weekends. But in case of "Yennai Arindhaal", the film was a non-holiday opener. Interestingly, Ajith's latest movie has beaten his earlier record of "Veeram", which was a Pongal release.
However, the report further elaborates that "Kochadaiiyaan" is in the fifth position amassing ₹4.30 crore from 330 shows followed by Dhanush's "VIP" (₹4.05 crore from 279 shows), Surya's "Anjaan" (₹3.93 crore from 201 shows), "Veeram" (₹3.92 crore from 276 shows) and "Jilla" (₹3.86 crore from 249 shows).
Meanwhile, "Yennai Arindhaal" has done good business worldwide. The Tamil movie has done a business above 65 crore in two weeks. The response for the movie, despite facing competition from Dhanush's "Anegan", is reasonably good.
"Yennai Arindhaal" has raked in $500K in the US box office. Ajith has now joined the elite $0.5 million club where Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay and Vikram have already registered their names.
"Yennai Arindhaal" is produced by AM Rathnam and directed by Gautham Menon.
