Vijay's "Kaththi" is set for a big release on 22 October as a Diwali treat for fans. The film will have a record release in several places, including Kerala, the US, the UK and Malaysia among others.
"Kaththi" is set for a grand opening upon its release, and the five-day long weekend is likely to ensure that the film scores big at the box office.
The film is Vijay-Murugadoss' second release after the blockbuster flick "Thuppakki" (2012). Expectations on "Kaththi" are sky high as the director-actor duo has teamed up after two years.
"Thuppakki" had turned out to be a massive hit at the box office. It crossed the ₹100 crore mark worldwide and emerged as the biggest grosser of 2012. In its first week itself, the Vijay starrer earned over ₹65 crore worldwide.
"The film collected Rs.65.32 crore worldwide in the first week. In Tamil Nadu, 'Thuppakki' raked in Rs.40 crore and above in the first six days and it continues to run to packed houses. It is also doing good business in neighbouring states such as Kerala and Andhra Pradesh," trade analyst Trinath had told IANS back in 2012.
The action thriller flick completed a 100-day run in a few theatres across Tamil Nadu. "Thuppakki" not only performed well in the state but also rocked several overseas markets, including the US and Malaysia.
Post the release of "Thuppakki", Vijay had two releases, including "Thalaivaa" and "Jilla". Both films failed to surpass "Thuppakki" collections and turned out to be just average grossers.
All eyes are now on "Kaththi" to see if the film will repeat the success of "Thuppakki" at the box office.
Trade experts will be tracking the film's performance to find out if it will be able to cross the ₹100 crore mark. Advance bookings and a five-day long weekend will ensure that "Kaththi" rakes in huge collections in its opening week. However, its overall performance will depend on its content. If it earns positive reviews, it is likely to continue its good run at the box office.
The trailer of "Kaththi" has raised the expectations on the project. It will be interesting to see if the film lives up to the hype, and manages to earn positive feedback from critics and audience alike.
The film, deemed as an action entertainer, will have Samantha, Neil Nithin Mukesh and comedian Sathish in pivotal roles. Music composer Anirudh has handled the soundtracks, while George C Williams has taken care of cinematography.
