Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, "Jigarthanda" is a musical gangster film starring Siddharth, Lakshmi Menon, Bobby Simha and Karunakaran in pivotal roles. Expectations are huge for the film thanks to the impressive trailer. The film's songs and background score, composed by Santosh Narayanan, have also received positive response from fans.
"The story and screenplay will definitely keep the audience engaged and entertained. It has definitely a lot more to offer than a regular gangster story," director Karthik Subbaraj told Behindwoods.
"Jigarthanda" is expected to release in around 250 screens in Tamil Nadu. The film is likely to take good openings considering the positive buzz surrounding it. Director Karthik's last release "Pizza" was critically-acclaimed as well as commercially successful. There is a lot of hype about "Jigarthanda" and it remains to be seen if the film will be able to impress the audience.
The Siddharth starrer might pose strong competition to Dhanush's "Velai Illa Pattathari" (VIP), which is going strong at the box office. "VIP" hit the screens on 18 July and has fared well in India and overseas markets as well.
The film has turned out to be the biggest hit of 2014 so far and is continuing to do steady business even in its second week. The Dhanush starrer has already been declared a hit with the film raking in over 25 crore in Tamil Nadu. Even, the release of Salman Khan's "Kick" did not have any effect on "VIP" collections.
However, it will be interesting to see how the film fares after the release of "Jigarthanda." "VIP" might lose some screens due to the release of "Jigarthanda." If the Siddharth starrer receives positive response, then the film will dominate the screens thus affecting the business of "VIP."
"Jigarthanda" is produced by Kathiresan and its cinematography is handled Gavemic U Ary. The film will be Siddharth's first release of the year, while it will be the third one for Lakshmi Menon after "Naan Sigappu Manithan" and "Manjapai."
