The Kannada remake of "Kick" is all set to hit the screens on 18 September.
The remake titled, "Super Ranga", has popular Kannada actor Upendra reprising roles of Salman Khan and Ravi Teja from the Hindi and Telugu versions. Kriti Kharbanda plays the female lead while the other cast members include Raghu Mukerjee, Doddanna, Rangayana Raghu and Bullet Prakash.
"Super Ranga" will be releasing on the special occasion of Upendra's birthday. The film is directed by Sadhu Kokila and produced by K Manju. Though the film is a remake of "Kick", the director has modified it to suit Upendra's image and cater to the Kannada audiences, reported the Times of India.
This is the third time that the original Telugu film, "Kick", is being remade in other languages. The Telugu version starring Ravi Teja was a big hit in 2009 by reportedly grossing more than ₹21 crore in 24 days.
Following the stupendous success of the film, it was remade as "Thillalangadi" in Tamil with Jayam Ravi in the lead role. The Tamil version failed to set the cash registers ringing and was just an average performer.
Recently, "Kick" was remade in Hindi with the same Telugu title. With Salman Khan doing the lead role, there was huge buzz prior to the film's release. The Hindi version "Kick" was produced with a big-budget by Sajid Nadiadwala. The film was his directorial debut too.
The film hit the screens on 25 July for the Eid weekend and received decent reviews from the critics. Audience gave big thumbs up to the film, which was evident from its collections.
The film crossed the ₹100 crore mark in just five days and soon entered the ₹200 crore club. It was the first Salman film to surpass the ₹200 crore mark.
"Kick" Hindi remake has so far minted more than ₹230 crore at the Indian box office. The film is still running in a few theatres and will soon complete 40-days theatrical run.
With the Telugu and Hindi versions of "Kick" having turned out to be hugely successful, the focus has now shifted to the Kannada remake.
Trade experts and fans will be eagerly looking forward to see the performance of the Kannada version, "Super Ranga", at the box office. Whether the film will repeat the success of earlier Telugu and Hindi versions is something one needs to wait and watch.
