Salman Khan's "Kick" has emerged as the highest grossing film of 2014, by raking in more than ₹230 crore. The film is still running well in some theatres, even in its fifth week.
The action-comedy entertainer has taken a huge lead by beating "Jai Ho" collections (₹116 crore), which was the highest-grossing film of the year until "Kick" took the box office by storm. [Note: The box office figures are referred from Bollywood Hungama]
Following the huge success of "Kick", Ajay Devgn's "Singham Returns" struck gold at the box office. The action entertainer, which hit the screens on 15 August, surprised everybody by earning ₹32 crore, and surpassing the opening day collections of "Kick".
Despite getting a grand start, the film is now behind "Kick". The Devgn starrer has minted ₹120.98 crore in nine days, while "Kick" earned around ₹183 crore in the same period. "Singham Returns" is expected to continue doing decent business at the box office. However, it is doubtful whether the film will be able to break "Kick" collections.
With several releases being planned in the next few weeks, "Singham Returns" might find it difficult to hold on to its screens. The film might lose some screens and this could affect its business. It could be difficult for the film to surpass "Kick" collections.
So, the question now arises as to which film stands a chance to beat "Kick" lifetime figures. Although there are several interesting films lined up for release in September, the focus will be more on "Bang Bang," which will be the next big hero release in Bollywood.
Starring Hrithik Roshan ad Katrina Kaif, "Bang Bang" is making all the right noises with its impressive trailer and first song, titled "Tu Meri". The stunts in the trailer and the sizzling chemistry between Hrithik and Katrina in the song have received fantastic response from fans.
The action thriller is carrying huge expectations, and it will be interesting to see if the film will be able to live up to the hype.
"Bang Bang" is all set to hit the screens on 2 October. Although the film will clash with Shahid Kapoor's "Haider", it is likely to take a grand opening at the box office as Hrithik commands a huge fan following worldwide. Fans and trade experts are eager to see whether "Bang Bang" surpasses "Kick" collections.
Hrithik's last release "Krrish 3" earned over ₹244 crore. It is the second highest grossing Bollywood film of all time. Fans of the actor will hope that "Bang Bang" will also strike gold at box office.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, "Bang Bang" also has Danny Denzongpa, Jimmy Shergill, Javed Jaffrey and Pawan Malhotra in supporting roles. The film is produced by Fox Star Studios.
